Under-Conveyor Catch Cloth Sizes: Widths, Lengths & Grommet Spacing
One of the most common questions we hear from maintenance managers and plant engineers is a simple one: what sizes do under-conveyor catch cloths actually come in? It is a fair question, because the answer determines whether a catch cloth truly protects your line or just hangs underneath it collecting problems. In this guide, we share the real sizing numbers our team uses every day, including typical widths, recommended section lengths, and standard grommet spacing.
What Sizes Are Available for Under-Conveyor Catch Cloths?
Catch cloths from Siftex are custom-made to fit your conveyor system, not pulled from a fixed size chart. That said, most systems fall within a predictable range. Typical widths run from approximately 12 inches to 60 inches, depending on the width of the conveyor and how much coverage the application requires underneath it.
Because every under-conveyor catch cloth is built to order, you are not forced to compromise with a standard tarp that is too narrow to contain falling product or so wide that it sags and traps debris. If your conveyor has an unusual footprint, obstructions, or transitions, we tailor the cloth around them.
How Long Should Each Catch Cloth Section Be?
For straight sections of conveyor, we generally recommend lengths of 10 to 12 feet or less per catch cloth section. Shorter sections are easier to install, easier to handle, and far easier to take down for cleaning. They also make future replacement more economical, because if one section wears or is damaged, you replace that section instead of one enormous cloth spanning the entire run.
Can Siftex Make Longer Sections?
Yes. Longer sections can be manufactured when the application requires it or when a customer requests it. Some layouts, such as long uninterrupted runs over sensitive equipment, justify a longer continuous cloth. Our team will talk through the tradeoffs with you so the final configuration matches how your crew actually installs, cleans, and maintains the line.
What Grommet Spacing Do Catch Cloths Use?
The most common grommet spacing is 12 inches or 24 inches on center, depending on the application. Tighter 12 inch spacing provides more attachment points and better load distribution for heavier debris, while 24 inch spacing installs faster and works well for lighter-duty containment.
Custom Grommet Spacing to Match Your Mounting Points
Custom grommet spacing is also available. If your facility already has hooks, cables, or framing in place, we can match the grommet layout to your existing mounting points so the new cloth goes up without drilling new hardware. This is one of the small details that separates a made-to-fit catch cloth from a generic conveyor cover.
What Are Siftex Catch Cloths Made Of?
Our standard build uses heavy-duty 18 oz vinyl-coated polyester with brass grommets. Vinyl-coated polyester holds up to moisture, abrasion, and daily plant conditions, and it wipes down easily during sanitation. For food plants and other regulated environments, our team can walk you through material options that fit your compliance needs.
How Do I Get the Right Fit for My Conveyor?
Measure the width of the conveyor, the length of the run you want to protect, and note any obstructions such as supports, drops, or crossovers. From there, our team turns those measurements into a sectioned layout with the right widths, lengths, and grommet pattern. Not sure how to measure? We can help, and on-site visits are available for complex lines.
